Oïkéiosis

Oikeiôsis is a concept from ancient Greek philosophy that can be translated as "appropriation" or "affinity." It refers to the natural inclination or instinct that living beings have to preserve themselves and their well-being, and to extend this sense of preservation to other beings and objects around them that they perceive as part of their own self-interest.

In Stoic philosophy, oikeiôsis is considered a fundamental aspect of human nature, and the goal of ethics is to cultivate a sense of oikeiôsis that extends beyond one's own self-interest to encompass the well-being of all living beings and the natural world as a whole. This involves recognizing and embracing the interconnectedness of all things and developing a sense of empathy and compassion for others.
